Sensei Sarah established our Wadhurst dojo back in 2004, it is one of our busiest dojos for children, youths, and adults.
If you want to give it a go then all you’ll need is to wear loose clothing, a t-shirt and jogging bottoms for instance. Karate is practised barefoot so you will be asked to remove your shoes when entering the dojo, if you have any foot conditions, such as verrucas, then please let us know and bring some clean trainers to wear.
If you have any medical conditions, such as asthma, again please let us know and don’t forget to bring your medication i.e. inhaler.
I want to come along and see what CMA Karate does, how can I do that?
It’s very easy, all you need to do is hit the make a booking button to the right and that will allow you to fill out a quick booking form to let us know you’re coming along to the dojo, then just turn up, however if you’d like to talk to someone then please use the phone numbers provided to contact the Sensei. If you like the look of what we are doing then we are happy for you to give it a go!
If I do join in what is the next step?
So the next step is simple, we’ll give you a sign up form and you can get started on our 4 week introductory course so you can give it a real go!
In a children's class can my parent come and watch?
We know starting something new can be scary! That is why we think it’s okay to have your parents watching while you do your introductory course, but as your confidence grows it’s probably better to let mum or dad wait for you outside the dojo, we don’t want them distracting you while you’re training hard!
What is the process once I've completed my intro course?
Well hopefully, by then you’ll know if you want to start training in karate. It works both ways, we will know if you are suited to begin training also (sometimes, with children they might be the right age but aren’t quite ready to take on the demands of karate training). Once that is all out of the way, you will be given some membership forms to fill out and return to us (you’ll have all the details to decide how much you want to train at this point), then you’ll receive your gi (karate suit), licence and membership booklets. Then you’re all set!
How much training with CMA Karate cost?
It really depends on how much you want to train really. Our introductory 4-week course is charged at £40, after that there is an initial payment of £95 , this covers your first month’s training, first years licence, insurance, membership, karate suit with belt and club badge. Depending on how often you want to train will define how much your monthly cost will be (we will explain the options to you when you sign up for your membership).
Are the instructors insured, hold the relevant checks etc?
Yes, all of our instructors are licensed and insured to teach, they also have the relevant checks in place, such as Enhanced DBS, we are also Safeguarding aware. As part of their licence our students are insured on a member to member basis. All licences are supplied through the English Karate Federation and renewed annually.
Sarah Padget
4th Dan
Sensei Sarah is one of our senior instructors, she has an impressive karate history, with many students graded to black belt including championship winning students too! From thinking up new ways of teaching karate for the children, to going through kata to a meticulous standard and expecting a high level in traditional classes, Sarah gives everything to her students and demands the best from them! A very tough karate-ka (did you know she broke her foot in one of her black belt grades!) its best not to get between her and her coveted orange smarties!
Sensei Sarah has always been thankful for the guidance and inspiration of her senseis, Chris Kent 7th dan and Barry Lovett 5th dan from a complete beginner to where she is today.
